Dark night People.jpg

After several prominent citizens of the small but prosperous village of La Equité are found murdered in the most horrendous fashion, JANINE MARCAHAND’s grandmother, MA GENE, informs the community that it is a SOUCOUYANT that has returned to exact revenge on the wealthier landowners of this former cocoa and coffee plantation. And when Janine accidentally allows the demon access to her house one night, it attacks Ma Gene and leaves her at death’s door.

Janine reluctantly enlists the help of TIGO, the rambunctious son of the AmerIndian village drunk to help her find the bush medicine that can cure her grandmother. During a perilous journey into the forest, they encounter PAPA BOIS, the forest guardian, who informs them that the Soucouyant has destroyed almost all the plant they are seeking. He gives them what little he has, but when they return to the village they find that the terrified residents are all packing to leave as one of their most pre-eminent residents has been discovered nude and broken in two on the road out of the village.

Realizing that to save their village they now have to find and destroy the Soucouyant, the two children scour the outskirts for the hiding place for her human skin. While investigating, Janine discovers that the Soucouyant is bent on revenge for a betrayal in which Janine’s great-grandfather was the ringleader. Janine begs Tigo for help. But when Tigo learns from his father that their ancestors were similarly betrayed by the villagers, he refuses to have anything more to do with her. And now Janine must face the Soucouyant alone and try to make a deal with the demon to leave the villagers in peace.
